Technology Without God Is Dangerous

(Vatacin)  Pope Benedict, leading the world’s Catholics into Easter, said on Saturday that technological progress, in the absence of awareness of God and moral values, is a threat to the world. Benedict presided at a solemn Easter vigil Mass in St Peter’s Basilica to usher the 1.2 billion-member church into the most important day of its liturgical calendar. The basilica, the largest church in Christendom, was in the dark for the start of the service to signify the darkness in Jesus’ tomb before what Christians believe was his resurrection from the dead three days after his crucifixion. The some 10,000…

19 Signs Of Very Serious Economic Trouble On The Horizon

(Economic Collapse Blog)  Most Americans have no idea how much economic trouble is heading our way.  Most of them just assume that everything will eventually “return to normal” just like it always has before and that those running our economy “know what they are doing” and that we should trust them to do their jobs. Unfortunately, these beliefs are being reinforced by the bubble of false hope that we are experiencing right now.  For example, it is being reported that weekly unemployment claims in the United States have fallen to a four-year low.  That is a very good thing.  Let us…

Is The Army Preparing For Civil Unrest Or Martial Law?

(Staff Sgt. Antwaun J. Parrish)  The Soldiers in a closed formation bang their batons in cadence against their shields as an angry mob approaches. “When I initially picked up my shield, the thought of the movie 300 was the first thing that came to mind,” said Spc. Kyle Wilhelmi. Teams of Soldiers assigned to 3rd Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade conducted civil disturbance training here March 13. The Soldiers, though not quite Spartans, are effectively training to hold their line and successfully control crowds if called upon for a civil disturbance. Soldiers with shields, batons and rifles…

Jesus Or Science Who’s Better at Miracles?

(Natalie Wolchover)  Much scientific progress has been made in the 2,000 years since Jesus Christ walked the Earth. In all this time, have scientists managed to replicate his miracles, or does the Son of God still have an edge? Life’s Little Mysteries matches up the miraculous deeds of Jesus, according to the Gospels, against scientists’ more labor-intensive efforts to achieve the same results. Born of a virgin According to the Bible, Christ was immaculately conceived, making him the Son of God and of the Virgin Mary. Today, being born of a virgin is nothing to write home about, thanks to the development of artificial insemination.…

Florida Prostitute Requests McDonald’s As Payment For Her Services

(Alexandra Myers)  Florida prostitute Christine Baker wanted nothing more than $40 bucks and two McDonald’s double cheeseburgers for her services. According to the Miami Herald, an undercover officer got Baker into his car last week. When she gave him her request, he complied. The detective bought the two cheeseburgers for $2.75 and drove to a vacant lot where a group of officers were waiting to arrest her for prostitution. According to the sheriff’s website, she was released on Saturday. It is unclear, however, if they let her eat the cheeseburgers in prison. Source

Big Brother Tracking Device That Everyone Owns

(American Dream)  If you own a cell phone, you might as well kiss your privacy goodbye.  Cell phone companies know more about us than most of us would ever dare to imagine.  Your cell phone company is tracking everywhere that you go and it is making a record of everything that you do with your phone. Much worse, there is a good chance that your cell phone company has been selling this information to anyone that is willing to pay the price – including local law enforcement.  In addition, it is an open secret that the federal government monitors and…

$30,000 Watch Vanishes Up Church Leader’s Sleeve

(Michael Schwirtz)  Facing a scandal over photographs of its leader wearing an enormously expensive watch, the Russian Orthodox Churchworked a little miracle: It made the offending timepiece disappear. Editors doctored a photograph on the church’s Web site of the leader, Patriarch Kirill I, extending a black sleeve where there once appeared to be a Breguet timepiece worth at least $30,000. The church might have gotten away with the ruse if it had not failed to also erase the watch’s reflection, which appeared in the photo on the highly glossed table where the patriarch was seated. The church apologized for the deception on Thursday…

Children Star In Their Own Porn Movies

(Jan Moir)  That children have access to porn and watch it in increasing numbers is bad enough. Now they’re making their own porn, too. And not just making it — they’re starring in their own pornographic home movies, filming each other having sex and passing them around the class as entertainment. This week in Gloucestershire a boy of 14 was arrested for making a pornographic film of himself and a schoolgirl of the same age. The children — who cannot be named for legal reasons — do  not attend the same school, but  were friends. Some time at the beginning…

Bill Gates Funds New Machine That Filters Toilet Waste Into Drinkable Water

(Rob Waugh)  Next time you see a dog lapping thirstily at a toilet bowl, pause for thought – next time, it could be you. A new invention – funded by Bill Gates – aims to turn used toilet water into drinking water. Manchester University’s Sarah Haigh is an expert in nanotechnology – the science of manipulating atoms in matter – and says, it could make waste water from toilets safe to drink.   The innovation – which has been funded by billionaire Bill Gates – could transform the lives of millions of people in the third world. Haigh believes a new…

Armed Neo-Nazis Patrol The Streets Of Sanford, Looking For Race Riots

(Muriel Kane)  Heavily armed neo-Nazis are said to be patrolling the streets of Sanford, Florida to protect “white citizens in the area” in case of race riots. According to a blog at the Miami New Times, the patrols were initiated by Jeff Schoep of the Detroit-based National Socialist Movement in response to the shooting of African-American teen Trayvon Martin by self-appointed neighborhood vigilante George Zimmerman. “We are not advocating any type of violence or attacks on anybody,” Schoep insists, “but we are prepared for it,. We are not the type of white people who are going to be walked all over.” “Because nothing…

Today’s Ebay Special – The Country Of Greece For Sale

(Alexander Higgins)  In what could be one of the better deals encountered on Ebay, one can submit a winning bid for none other than the country of Greece, currently going for the modest price of $1,550 (although with 6 more days left in the auction, there is a small chance Goldman will outbid and use it as LTRO 3 collateral). Of course, since the country is worth much less than the debt (all 7 subordinated classes of it) any new equity buyer would assume, this is a trick auction: our advice – settle for nothing less than getting paid as much as possible for “buying”…

U.S. Standard of Living Has Fallen More Than 50%

(Jeff Nielson)  In writing about the relentless collapse of Western economies, I frequently point to “forty years of plummeting wages” for Western workers, in real dollars. However, where I have been remiss is in quantifying the magnitude of this collapse in Western wages. On several occasions I have glibly referred to how it now takes two spouses working to equal the wages of a one-income family of forty years ago. Unfortunately that is now an understatement. In fact, Western wages have plummeted so low that a two-income family is now (on average) 15% poorer than a one-income family of 40 years…

United States Of Addiction,Painkiller Sales Soar

(AP)  Sales of the nation’s two most popular prescription painkillers have exploded in new parts of the country, an Associated Press analysis shows, worrying experts who say the push to relieve patients’ suffering is spawning an addiction epidemic. From New York’s Staten Island to Santa Fe, N.M., Drug Enforcement Administration figures show dramatic rises between 2000 and 2010 in the distribution of oxycodone, the key ingredient in OxyContin, Percocet and Percodan. Some places saw sales increase sixteenfold. Meanwhile, the distribution of hydrocodone, the key ingredient in Vicodin, Norco and Lortab, is rising in Appalachia, the original epicenter of the painkiller…

American Flag Bearing Barack Obama Hangs in New Jersey

(Patrick Henningsen)  A CBS News affiliate in Philadelphia reported on an incident this week, where a local South Jersey resident has been flying the stars and stripes – only there are no the stars representing the 50 states. In their place was the emblazoned image of Barack Obama. Residents complained that this new ’Obama Stripes’ version of the American Flag violates the United States official flag code.  One elderly resident appeared to be visibly shaken for fear she would be branded as a ‘racist’ for showing her disapproval of the Obama Stripes.  She explains, “I don’t to be called a racist because I object to an American flag where the stars…

Chinese Teen Sells Kidney For $3,500 To Buy Apple IPhone

(Christina Bonnington)  Five people have been charged with intentional injury in the case of a Chinese teenager’s obsessive quest for Apple products. Last April, 17-year-old Wang, a resident of one of China’s poorest provinces, sold a kidney in order to purchase an iPhone and iPad 2. The transaction wasn’t discovered until his mom asked where he had gotten the money to purchase the pricey Apple products. Now five people, including Wang’s surgeon, have been charged with intent to harm in the case, according to Reuters. Wang received $3,500 for the organ, while the defendants (the surgeon, medical staff, and a few other…

Vietnamese Man Buys Wyoming Town For $900G

(AP)  Buford is a small place for sure, but so is the world.  A remote, unincorporated area along busy Interstate 80 that advertised itself as the smallest town in the United States, Buford was sold at auction for $900,000 on Thursday to an unidentified man from Vietnam. It’s owner for the last 20 years, Don Sammons, served with the U.S. Army as a radio operator in 1968-69. After meeting the buyer, an emotional Sammons said it was hard for him to grasp the irony of the situation. “I think it’s funny how things come full circle,” he said. The buyer attended the…

Sawgrass School Photographer Places Black Smiley Over Students Face

( Laura Hibbard)  A second grader at Sawgrass Elementary School in Sunrise, Fla., who didn’t have the parental consent form to be in his class photo was nevertheless included, but in a way that has shocked school officials and the boy’s parents, WPLG TV reports. Per the elementary school’s request, The Huffington Post blurred the faces of the other students in the photo, but the second grade boy can still be seen with a crude, brown-colored, smiley face placed over his face. “It was totally inappropriate,” Broward School District spokeswoman Marsy Smith told WPLG. Smith also said Sherry Rose, the school’s principal, was…

Loophole Could Allow Private Land Claims On Other Worlds

(Adam Mann)  Who owns the moon? What about Mars? For now, the answer is no one, but as more private companies, billionaire entrepreneurs and national governments start casting their eyes on space, the question could change from a futuristic problem into a real issue. Under the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which governs international space law, no one nation can claim sovereignty over a body in space. But there could be a loophole. Full blown colonization and settlement of other planets, moons and even asteroids might actually happen, says space policy consultant Rand Simberg, if a government could provide one thing: property rights. Parceling out…

The Philosophy Of Freedom

(NaturalNews)  Do you agree with this statement? Government has no business telling us what to drink, what to eat, what kind of medicine we should take, what to smoke, what to farm, or how to run our private lives. These are all elements of individual liberty or what you might callpersonal freedom. They are all part of the bigger push to get Big Government off our backs and out of our lives. But do the people who call for individual liberty really believe in it themselves? Or are they carrying around a sharp contradiction in their own beliefs? Consider the following statements:…

Priest Accidentally Plays Gay Porn Slideshow To Congregation

(Jesus Diaz)  Father Martin McVeigh was giving a talk to 26 parents and one 8-year-old kid when computer disaster struck. He connected his USB drive into a PC to start his Powerpoint presentation and, instead of the word of God, a hardcore gay porn slideshow started—thanks to Windows’ autoplay. Some parents—who were there to hear McVeigh talk about First Communion—were angry. Others were in shock. Just like McVeigh. He was so embarrassed that, according to witnesses, unplugged the USB drive and walked out of the room without uttering a single word. Later he declared to the press: I don’t know…

See The World Through Google, In The Futuristic Google Glasses

(Steven Levy)  Larry Page and Sergey Brin have long had the dream of a hands-free, mobile Google, where search was a seamless process as you moved around the world. As the years progressed the vision did, too, expanding beyond search to persistent connections with the people in your lives. In other words, Google’s view of the world now has the social side fully baked into it. Today, Google is revealing that it is taking concrete steps towards that vision with ProjectGlass, an augmented reality system that will give users the full range of activities performed with a smart phone — without the…

25 Athletes Who Have Absolutely Lost Their Minds

(Amber Lee)Being a professional athlete in a number of sports today comes with a certain level of fame and fortune that is difficult for us mortals to even imagine. There’s the pressure to win, to perform at a high level, to get that lucrative, long-term deal. Most athletes won’t make the Hall of Fame or break records, but  manage to avoid having the kind of train wreck of career and personal life that lands them into the “Hall of Infamy.” How a professional handles adversity often defines their career long after leaving the field of play. As much as the…

Lawmakers Trying To Sneak Another Unconstitutional Cyber Security Bill Through Congress

(Mike Masnick)  While most folks are looking elsewhere, it appears that Congress is trying to see if it can sneak an absolutely awful “cybersecurity” bill through Congress. We’ve discussed how there’s been some fighting on the Senate side concerning which cybersecurity bill to support, but there’s a similar battle going on in the House, and it appears that the Rogers-Ruppersberger bill, known as Cyber Security Bill (for Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) or HR 3523 is winning out, with a planned attempt to move it through Congress later this month. The bill is awful — and yet has somehow already gained over 100 sponsors. In an attempt…

Who’s Listening To The Listeners? N.S.A. Expands Facilities Across U.S.

(James Bamford)  Army General Keith Alexander, the director of the NSA, is having a busy year — hopping around the country, cutting ribbons at secret bases and bringing to life the agency’s greatly expanded eavesdropping network. In January he dedicated the new $358 million CAPT Joseph J. Rochefort Building at NSA Hawaii, and in March he unveiled the 604,000-square-foot John Whitelaw Building at NSA Georgia. Designed to house about 4,000 earphone-clad intercept operators, analysts and other specialists, many of them employed by private contractors, it will have a 2,800-square-foot fitness center open 24/7, 47 conference rooms and VTCs, and “22…

Organic Food Industry Bought Up By Corporations Like Coca-Cola

(Anthony Gucciardi)  You may be wondering why some supposedly ‘healthy’ and ‘environmentally conscious’ companies deceive unknowing consumers into purchasing products with hidden additives and fillers. Perhaps one of the main reasons is that a large number of these pseudo-organic brands are owned by their very unhealthy ‘competitors’, such as Coca-Cola and General Mills. In fact, some of your favorite “All Natural” and organic companies may be owned by a corporate giant. Companies like Honest Tea and Odwalla may appeal to health conscious shoppers, but they are actually owned by Coca-Cola — the very same company that is currently fuming over the requirement…

Extinction Of Bee’s Imminent, Monsanto Buys Beeologics

(Georgina Gustin)  Monsanto Co. announced Wednesday that it had bought Beeologics, a company that is developing a product that promises to help bees survive an illness that has been wiping out colonies across the world. Creve Coeur-based Monsanto, the world’s largest seed company, did not disclose the terms of the sale. Beeologics, a research company founded in 2007 with headquarters in Florida and Israel, has developed a product called Remembee, which is an anti-viral agent that the company’s researchers believe could stem the impact of colony collapse disorder. The mysterious disorder has decimated honeybee populations around the globe, with far-reaching…

How To Hide Emails From Government Snooping

(Jack Schofield)  You already know how to keep messages private: you just encrypt the contents using a password. But although this kind of technology has been freely available to PC users since Phil Zimmermann launched PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) in 1991, hardly anyone uses it. The benefits of email and online messaging are that they are fast and relatively frictionless – you don’t need to address an envelope, find a stamp, walk to a post box and so on – and encryption becomes an annoyance. The problem with the latest government attempts at snooping is that they are not concerned with the…

How American Corporations Transformed From Producers To Predators

( William Lazonick)  In 2010, the top 500 U.S. corporations – the Fortune 500 – generated $10.7 trillion in sales, reaped a whopping $702 billion in profits, and employed 24.9 million people around the globe. Historically, when these corporations have invested in the productive capabilities of their American employees, we’ve had lots of well-paid and stable jobs. That was the case a half century ago. Unfortunately, it’s not the case today. For the past three decades, top executives have been rewarding themselves with mega-million dollar compensation packages while American workers have suffered an unrelenting disappearance of middle-class jobs. Since the 1990s, this hollowing…

US No-Fly List Doubles In 1 Year

(Washington)  Even as the Obama administration says it’s close to defeating al-Qaida, the size of the government’s secret list of suspected terrorists who are banned from flying to or within the United States has more than doubled in the past year, The Associated Press has learned. The no-fly list jumped from about 10,000 known or suspected terrorists one year ago to about 21,000, according to government figures provided to the AP. Most people on the list are from other countries; about 500 are Americans. The flood of new names began after the failed Christmas 2009 bombing of a Detroit-bound jetliner.…

Mandatory Strip Searches Are Coming To The U.S.

(Stephen C. Webster)  Going forward from this week on, people arrested in the United States may face a mandatory strip search, even if their offense is minor and authorities don’t suspect them of smuggling any contraband. That’s because U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy sided with the court’s conservatives on Monday, swinging the vote 5-4 in favor of allowing jail officials to conduct a strip search of anyone in their custody.   Those searches may now even be carried out on people who’ve only committed minor offenses like traffic violations or small drug possession, and in cases where there…

Baltimore Police Caught Handcuffing Nine Year Old Girls

(Eric W. Dolan)  The ACLU of Maryland on Friday said it was “appalling” that Baltimore police officers arrested and handcuffed three 9-year-old girls and an 8-year-old boy at an elementary school. The officers arrested the children Thursday afternoon inside Morrell Park Elementary School on aggravated-assault charges. The charges were based on a schoolyard fight that occurred nine days earlier. “The actions of Baltimore City police in arresting and handcuffing eight and nine year old children at school are appalling, and also in plain violation of state regulations regarding school arrests,” Sonia Kumar, an attorney with the ACLU. “Even if it was appropriate…

Goldman Sachs Involved In Biggest Child Trafficking Website Backpage.com

(Nicholas D. Kristof)  The biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States appears to be a Web site called Backpage.com This emporium for girls and women — some under age or forced into prostitution — is in turn owned by an opaque private company called Village Voice Media. Until now it has been unclear who the ultimate owners are. That mystery is solved. The owners turn out to include private equityfinanciers, including Goldman Sachswith a 16 percent stake. Goldman Sachs was mortified when I began inquiring last week about its stake in America’s leading Web site for prostitution ads.…

Stratfor Leak: Assassination Of Obama!

(Wayne Madsen)  In the latest leak from WikiLeaks of hacked e-mails from the private intelligence firm Stratfor, Fred Burton, Stratfor’s vice president for intelligence, reveals that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is an intelligence source for Stratfor. However, the e-mails sent by Burton strongly indicate that Stratfor, which was founded by pro-Israeli businessman George Friedman; Netanyahu, and Mossad are of the same mindset when it comes to a perception that President Barack Obama is a threat to Israel. In a May 12, 2009 e-mail, Burton wrote: “BB [Netanyahu], being the man of honor that he is, intends to let Obama…

14 Shot, 2 Dead During Wake Outside Florida Funeral Home

(CBSMiami) – Fourteen people have been shot and two are dead in what may be one of the worst mass shootings in South Florida history. The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. outside the Funeraria Latina Emanuel funeral home at 14990 W. Dixie Highway Friday night. One of the victims, a 43-year-old man, died outside the funeral home, authorities said. The other, a 27-year-old man, died at the hospital. Witnesses at the funeral home had said one of the two people killed was shot in the chest. Their names have not been released. Family photo of Mckayla, the 5-year-old girl…

Baltimore Maryland Lottery Winner Tom Kreft Tricks Media Into Reporting He Won Mega Millions

(Thomas Dishaw) Tom Kreft an aspiring film producer tricks media into reporting that he won the Mega Millions jackpot. Just a day short of April Fools day  Kreft plays one of the biggest media hoax of 2012. After hearing the winner was from Baltimore County Maryland, Kreft decided to put his Photoshop skills to work and create a winning ticket. First posting the story to Facebook  Kreft received feedback that  the story was a hoax. “They didn’t believe me so I put my picture with the ticket and the power of social media picked it up” Kreft explained. “A friend of…

Starbucks Admits To Using Beetle Extract In Popular Drink Coloring

(NaturalNews) For being a multinational corporate food and beverage giant, Starbucks has actually been among the most proactive in ridding its offerings of toxic additives and artificial colors, and switching to natural alternatives. But the company’s recent decision to change its Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino blended beverage formula has the vegan community in an uproar, as ground-up beetles now constitute part of the drink’s natural coloring components. According to reports, Starbucks switched its formula back in January, replacing a formerly-vegan coloring agent with the beetle-derived agent. And a vegan Starbucks barista reportedly captured a photo of the beverage’s ingredients list…

Biden: “We Want To Create A Global Minimum Tax”

“For years, American manufacturers have faced one of the highest tax rates in the world. We want to reduce that by over 20%. We want to drop the rate, particularly, for high-tech manufacturers like you, Mr. President, even further than the 20%,” Vice President Joe Biden said at a manufacturing plant in Davenport, Iowa this week. “We want to create (what’s called) a global minimum tax, because American taxpayers shouldn’t be providing a larger subsidy for investing abroad than investing at home,” Biden said at a campaign event

Canada Kills The Penny

There may still be pennies from heaven, but they won’t be coming from the mint much longer. The humble one-cent piece is set to disappear from Canadian pockets, a victim of inflation. Thursday’s federal budget said the Royal Canadian Mint will strike the last of the little coins this fall. The budget says the cost of minting a penny has risen to 1.6 cents or $11 million a year. Its purchasing power has fallen to a 20th of its original value. “Some Canadians consider the penny more of a nuisance than a useful coin,” the budget documents said. And so…

Controversial Pesticide Linked To Bee Collapse

(Brandon Keim)  A controversial type of pesticide linked to declining global bee populations appears to scramble bees’ sense of direction, making it hard for them to find home. Starved of foragers and the pollen they carry, colonies produce fewer queens, and eventually collapse. The phenomenon is described in two new studies published March 29 in Science. While they don’t conclusively explain global bee declines, which almost certainly involve a combination of factors, they establish neonicotinoids as a prime suspect. “It’s pretty damning,” said David Goulson, a bee biologist at Scotland’s University of Stirling. “It’s clear evidence that they’re likely to be…

Department Of Homeland Security Is Buying 450 Million Rounds Of Bullets

(Eloise Lee)  The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an “indefinite delivery” of an “indefinite quantity” of .40 caliber ammunition from defense contractor ATK. U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal. The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer “optimum penetration for terminal performance.” This refers to the the bullet’s hollow-point tip that passes through barriers and expands for a bigger impact without the rest of the bullet getting warped out of shape: “this bullet holds its jacket in the toughest…

Displaced C.I.A. Spy Uses Twitter To Blast Agency

(Eli Lake)  The Twitter feed belonging to Lynnae Williams at first glance looks like most Twitter feeds. There are tweets about what she is reading (“Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” “Madame Bovary”); tweets about politics (leans towards the Occupy movement); and tweets about food (tuna casserole, carrot-cake muffins). But on closer inspection, the feed features something rare for Twitter and even the Internet: detailed disclosures about the CIA. On Tuesday for example, Williams tweeted, “The #Farm is #CIA’s training center near #Williamsburg, Virginia. I think it’s the Kisevalter Center or something.” In other tweets, Williams, who in 2009 spent nearly four months training to…

‘KillZimmerman’ Twitter Advocates Violence Against Martin’s Killer

(David Martosko)  On March 24 a “KillZimmerman” Twitter account began publishing calls for violence against George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26. Five days later, the account is still on its crusade to avenge Martin. The sender’s initial tweets made his or her aims clear: “No Justice No Peace!!!!!!!!!! #KILLZIMMERMAN #KILLZIMMERMAN #KILLZIMMERMAN,” they read. The account’s image is a photo of gun-sight crosshairs superimposed on Zimmerman’s picture. “This Page Is 4 Da Ppl Who Believe Zimmerman Should Be Shot Dead In The Street,” the Twitter account’s description reads, “The Same Way TRAYVON…

POLICE CAN HACK YOUR PHONE IN 2 MINUTES

Set your iPhone to require a four-digit passcode, and it may keep your private information safe from the prying eyes of the taxi driver whose cab you forget it in. But if law enforcement is determined to see the data you’ve stored on your smartphone, those four digits will slow down the process of accessing it by less than two minutes. Here’s a video posted last week by Micro Systemation, a Stockholm, Sweden-based firm that sells law enforcement and military customers the tools to access the devices of criminal suspects or military detainees and siphon off their personal information. As…

Scientists Suggest That Eating Placenta Is Good For You

(Jamie Condliffe)  The entire animal kingdom does it, but most humans become squeamish and pull their faces at the very notion. But now, scientists are suggesting that mothers—and perhaps even fathers—would benefit from eating parts of the placenta following child birth. Yum. A team of researchers from the University at Buffalo has been studying afterbirth ingestion in other species to work out why they do it—and why it might be beneficial for humans. They point out that eating the placenta provokes an increase in mother-child interaction, promotes hormone release that stimulates caring instincts, attenuates pain—in both sexes— and even increases the possibilities…

Leaving Your Apartment To Take Out The Trash May Get You Arrested In N.Y.

(Andrew Jones)  The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) filed a lawsuit against the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Wednesday, alleging that in addition to stopping primarily black and Latino residents in public spaces as part of the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk program, officers are illegally searching people in private buildings. According to a press release, the NYCLU filed the lawsuit on behalf of residents whose buildings are apart of “Operation Clean Halls,” an agreement by the NYPD and a landlord that grants officers permission to patrol inside a building at any time. NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman cited how minorities…
