The increasing number of rapes in Stockholm has increased the burden on the Emergency Room for rapists at Södersjukhuset. The Stockholm Police are now appointing a special group to work on rape in the region.
Every day, five rapes are reported in Stockholm each year. This has meant that the specialized Emergency Hospital for rapists at Södersjukhuset has received a significantly increased load.
Every examination and care effort at the Emergency Room for rapists is time consuming. This is to be able to trace safe findings for forensic investigation in a legally secure manner and to cope with crisis management.
The police are now establishing an investigative group focusing on investigating the growing number of rapes in the region. The investigation group will comprise about 15 police officers, and will work on investigative work by the end of 2020.
The number of reported rapes in the region has increased by 20% in the first half of 2019 compared to the first half of 2018.
