New York City Lets You Choose From 31 Different Gender Identities

(Peter Hasson)  Individuals living in New York City can choose from a minimum of 31 different gender identities, many of which allow them to fluctuate between some version or combination of male or female identities. Businesses that don’t respect and accommodate an individual’s chosen gender identity risk incurring six-figure fines under rules implemented by the city’s Commission on Human Rights. The list of protected gender identities is available online and includes options such as “gender bender,” “two spirit,” “third sex,” “androgynous,” “gender gifted,” and “pangender.” A city official speaking on background confirmed to The Daily Caller that all of the listed identities…

Massachusetts Homeschool Families Report Being Subjected to Investigations

(Jenni White)  Six homeschooling families in Massachusetts say they are being subjected to unnecessary inquiries by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (MDCF) for alleged educational neglect. ‘Comes Up Over and Over’ Bill Heuer, a member of the board of directors for the Massachusetts Home Learning Association, says he’s not surprised by the reports. “This comes up over and over again,” Heuer said. Heuer says though it’s easy to homeschool in Massachusetts, there’s a “gray area” in state education law that makes room for these type of investigations. Massachusetts is an “approval” state, meaning the district superintendent must approve…

Ex-CEO Of Largest Swiss Insurer Commits Suicide, Three Years After CFO Hanged Himself

(Zero Hedge)  In the latest tragic news from the world of finance, earlier today Zurich Insurance, the largest Swiss insurer which employs 55,000 people and provides general insurance and life insurance products in more than 170 countries, reported that Martin Senn, the company’s former chief executive officer who stepped down in a December reshuffle, has committed suicide. He was 59. Senn had been a long-time employee of the insurer, serving as its chief executive for six years before stepping down in December. The family informed Zurich Insurance that Senn had taken his own life on Friday, according to the statement.…

Illinois Governor Vetoes Plan to Reduce Chicago’s Pension Contributions

(Bob Adelmann)  Chicago’s pension contributions to its four dreadfully underfunded pension plans were supposed to double this year to $1.1 billion, up from $478 billion in 2015. But state legislators passed a bill (which had been bottled up for nearly a year) to cut that back to under $900 million. On Friday Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner (shown) vetoed the bill, expressing in no uncertain terms that he was tired of politicians kicking the can down the road: By deferring responsible funding decisions until 2021 and then extending the timeline for reaching responsible funding levels from 2040 to 2055, Chicago is borrowing…

FBI Gets Warrantless E-mail Snooping Added to Two Senate Bills

(Michael Tennent)  The Federal Bureau of Investigation wants to be able to obtain information on individuals’ e-mails, and possibly their Web-browsing history, without a warrant, and now two bills in the Senate — one of them, ironically, aimed at strengthening e-mail-privacy protections — have been amended to give the agency this power. The FBI already uses its controversial National Security Letters (NSLs) to obtain telephone billing records without a warrant while preventing service providers from informing anyone about the demands. Though once used sparingly, NSLs have been employed much more frequently since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. “In 2015,”…

Billionaires on the March to Control Dissemination of News

(Jim Gutenberg)  At first blush, the secret support that the Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel provided for Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker is a salacious yarn about money, power, gossip and revenge. But it is also about something more important: an aggressive bid by the very wealthy to control the U.S. news media at a time when it is in a financially weakened state, struggling to maintain its footing on the electronic frontier’s unstable terrain. Speaking with Andrew Ross Sorkin of The New York Times on Wednesday, Thiel said he had financed the Hogan lawsuit — which resulted in a $140 million verdict against…

Dozens Shot Over Memorial Day Weekend As The Collapse Of Chicago Accelerates

(Michael Snyder)  Chaos and violence threaten to spiral out of control in America’s third largest city, and nobody seems to have any idea how to solve the problem.  After decades of control by the radical left, many parts of the “Windy City” have become rotting, decaying, gang-infested hellholes.  Just like Detroit, the city of Chicago is rapidly becoming a joke to the rest of the world, but a horribly corrupt political culture likely stands in the way of any type of major reform any time soon.  And just like much of the rest of the nation, a spirit of violence and civil…

8 Miraculous Healing Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar (No. 2 Alone Could Save Millions Of Lives)

(Mellisa Fisk)  Golden brown and slightly hazy from the fine fibers floating inside, apple cider vinegar may seem unimpressive at first glance. From thousands of years, however, this unassuming panacea has been used to combat a wide variety of health problems. And while not every Internet claim can be substantiated, scientific research continues to reveal legitimate ways vinegar can contribute to a healthier life, including the following eight great uses: 1. Treating ear infections Few things are as painful as an ear infection. If you’re looking for relief for adults, though, the answer may be as close as your kitchen…

Huffington Post Removes Article Claiming Hillary Clinton Will Be Indicted

(Patrick Howley)  The liberal publication Huffington Post removed an article on its website Sunday claiming that the FBI plans to pursue an indictment against Hillary Clinton on federal racketeering charges. HuffPo freelance contributor Frank Huguenard, a scientist and public speaker, posted an article on the site’s blog entitled “Hillary Clinton to be Indicted on Federal Racketeering Charges”. Huguenard wrote: The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) is a United States Federal Law passed in 1970 that was designed to provide a tool for law enforcement agencies to fight organized crime.  RICO allows prosecution and punishment for alleged racketeering activity…

Revealed: cancer scientists’ pensions invested in tobacco

Scientists funded by Cancer Research UK who spend their lives hunting for cures for the disease are among thousands of academics whose pensions are invested in the tobacco industry, the Guardian can reveal. The latest annual report for the university staff’s pension fund shows it had £211m invested in British American Tobacco in the year to 31 March 2015 – its fifth biggest listed equities holding. The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) – the official name for the fund for university academics and staff – was worth £49bn in 2015. The BAT holding is not the only controversial investment; its biggest holding was…

Scientology opens state-of-the-art communications HQ in middle of Hollywood

(Matthew Dunn)  SOARING 45 metres above Sunset Boulevard in the centre of Hollywood stands a communications tower adorned with two triangles and a stylised “S”. The logo belongs to the controversial Church of Scientology and is being used as branding for the religion’s new hi-tech media complex known as Scientology Media Productions (SMP), which has been created to act as an “uncorrupted communication line to the billions”. Speaking to more than 10,000 Scientologists at the unveiling of the complex, church leader David Miscavige said the global media centre would be used to combat biased media reports and allow for the…

Retirement at age 65 is no longer a reality

(NORC)  Departing the workforce entirely and entering retirement at age 65 is no longer a reality for many older people in the United States, according to a recent survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The study finds that there are large numbers of older Americans who are currently, or who expect to be, working longer. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are continuing with the same employment circumstances indefinitely. Many are either reducing their hours to part-time status or are planning to switch to a new employer or even a new field. This survey comes…

Students seeking sugar daddies for tuition, rent

Candice Kashani graduated from law school debt-free this spring, thanks to a modern twist on an age-old arrangement. During her first year, she faced tuition and expenses that ran nearly $50,000, even after a scholarship. So she decided to check out a dating website that connected women looking for financial help with men willing to provide it, in exchange for companionship and sex — a “sugar daddy” relationship as they are known. Now, almost three years and several sugar daddies later, Kashani is set to graduate from Villanova University free and clear, while some of her peers are burdened with…

The Federal Reserve’s $4.3 trillion ticking time bomb

The Federal Reserve has a big problem if it wants to raise rates again. It will have to pay U.S. and foreign banks enormous sums of money instead of U.S. taxpayers. Not only would the Fed likely draw the ire of Congress, but it could also become a target of the next U.S. president—be it Clinton or Trump. That’s because the gangbuster profits of $90 billion (plus) per year that the Fed remits to the Treasury could easily dwindle to zero. According to several leading economists, it’s also possible that the Fed will become technically insolvent (though it always has…

REDDIT CEO: “WE KNOW YOUR DARK SECRETS, WE KNOW EVERYTHING”

(Paul Joseph Watson)  Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has stoked controversy after telling a conference, “We know your dark secrets, we know everything.” Huffman was asked by Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten how the company planned to increase monetization of its content. He cited Facebook’s success in “making people accept in line native ads” but added that Reddit’s “targeting will be different” because it knows even more than Facebook about its users. “We know all of your interests. Not only just your interests you are willing to declare publicly on Facebook – we know your dark secrets, we know everything,” said Huffman.…

Trump: Illegal immigrants treated better than veterans

(Jessie Hellmann)  Donald Trump took his presidential campaign Sunday to a group he frequently boasts about aiding — veterans. Speaking at the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C., the presumptive GOP presidential nominee told those gathered on the Mall, including veterans and their families, that the U.S. treats “illegal immigrants” better than veterans. “We have to take care of our vets, and in many cases, illegal immigrants are taken better care of by this country than our vets, and that’s not going to happen,” Trump said at the rally, which is held annually to honor members of the military…

Louisiana lawmaker: Declaration of Independence is racist

(Jessica Chia)  A Louisiana lawmaker argued against a bill requiring public school students to recite excerpts from the Declaration of Independence because ‘only Caucasians were free’ at the time it was penned. While the Declaration of Independence states ‘all men are created equal’, it took nearly a century later before the 15th amendment allowed men regardless of ‘race, color, or previous condition of servitude’ to vote. Barbara Norton said it was ‘unfair’ to require children to recite the founding document, given it was written when slavery was still widespread. Republican representative Valarie Hodges shelved the bill, which required public school…

Massive increase in container shipments at Port of Portland

(PORTLAND)  Officials say container shipments have increased by more than 1,300 percent since 2011 at the Port of Portland, which lost a lot of container business following the Great Recession. The Portland Press Heraldreports (http://bit.ly/1sBMi8J ) the Maine International Trade Center says container shipments at the port have ballooned from 7,400 metric tons in 2011 to 105,523 metric tons in 2015.   Part of the reason for the enormous increase is attributed to the growth of Eimskip, the port’s largest cargo operator. The Icelandic shipping company has upped its refrigerated cargo service by approximately 20 percent each year since arriving in Portland…

Hillary Clinton Blasts Donald Trump’s Gun Policy as “Dangerous”

(Joe Wolverton, II, J.D.)  Hillary Clinton told a gathering of gun rights opponents that Donald Trump’s position on the issue was “dangerous,” “way out there,” and “no way to keep us safe.” Donald Trump, speaking at a National Rifle Association (NRA) convention in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 20, said that “the Second Amendment is under threat like never before” and that “crooked Hillary Clinton is the most anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment candidate ever to run for office.” The NRA endorsed him the same day. The following day, Clinton, Trump’s presumptive rival for the White House, told attendees at a conference on…

Photos Reveal: U.S. Special Forces Engaged in Front Line Combat in Syria

(Joe Wolverton, II, J.D.)  Photos published by Agence France-Presse (AFP) reveal that President Barack Obama lied when he told the American people that there are no U.S. troops on the ground in Syria. The AFP pictures, which include the one shown here, prove that U.S. Special Forces soldiers are directly engaged in combat operations with the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the latter’s efforts to capture the unofficial capital of ISIS, Raqqa. Despite the photographic proof of American military forces fighting in the field along side their Syrian “allies,” the Defense Department continues to insist that the 300 or so U.S.…

“Bill Clinton Was Here”: The Elite One-Percent’s ‘Orgy Island’ Exposed

(Zero Hedge)  If you can name it — it has likely taken place this the lavish private island off the coast of Puerto Rico which boasts a beautifully landscaped plush luxury estate complete with its own helipad, privy only to certain members of the global elite. Owned by Jeffery Epstein, a wealthy American financier and convicted sex offender, Little St. James Island appears to be somewhat of a gathering place and is a well desired hangout among key figureheads, actors and royalty to the likes of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Kevin Spacey and even Prince Andrew. Bill Clinton made multiple…

Thousands Call on DNC to Oust ‘Corporatist Tool’ Wasserman Schultz

(Nadia Prupis)   More than 40,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to remove embattled chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has faced increasing criticism over her leadership of the party in the 2016 election cycle. The petition, organized by the grassroots group RootsAction.org, castigates Wasserman Schultz for what the group describes as an attempt to “minimize competition for her candidate Hillary Clinton” and for her actions in U.S. Congress as “a pro-militarist and corporatist tool of the high bidders.” “The head of one of the two big political parties in the United States is trying to choose…

In Venezuela, Devalued Money May Weigh More Than Whatever You Can Buy

(JOHN OTIS)  Editor’s note: John Otis has reported from Latin America since the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989, and first covered Venezuela 19 years ago. He’s returned many times since, and reflects here on how the country has changed since he first arrived. During my first reporting trip to Caracas in 1997, I was nearly robbed leaving a subway station. While riding up the escalator, I was sandwiched by two rather inept thieves who pried my wallet out of my pocket, but then dropped it. I snatched the billfold and ran. I was reminded of that incident on my…

Enjoying the collapse: Abandoned malls and vaporwave

(TRIGGER EXPERT)  If I wanted to limit myself to posting profoundly insightful things, I’d have to post once a month perhaps. So, today I want to discuss something that simply happens to entertain me. I’m part of an age cohort that happens to remember the nineties, but only very vaguely so. We’re the echo-boomers, born from around 1989 until 1992. During that period there was a small but significant spike in birth rates around the Western world. If you were to ask your parents however, they’d insist that the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin…

Former Morgan Stanley Chief Asia Economist: “Don’t Listen To The Ruling Elite, The World Economy Is In Real Trouble”

(Zero Hedge) Andy Xie says the world’s elite that are attending the G7, G20, Davos and other wasteful meetings are wrong to try to pin the blame for the turmoil on people’s psychology; all signs point to a prolonged period of global stagnation and instability. Before the current G7 meetings waste of time, The G20 working group meeting in Shanghai didn’t come up with any constructive proposals for reviving the global economy and, instead, complained that the recent market turmoil didn’t reflect the “underlying fundamentals of the global economy”. The oil price has declined by 70 per cent since June 2014,…

Senators Slam Loretta Lynch: End The Climate Change Witch Hunt

(Zero Hedge)  Exxon Mobile filed court papers in Texas last month seeking to block a subpoena issued in March by the attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands which alleges that Exxon is deceiving the public and shareholders about the effects of climate change. Exxon has said that the subpoena is an unwarranted fishing expedition into Exxon’s internal records and violates its constitutional rights; “The chilling effect of this inquiry, which discriminates based on viewpoint to target one side of an ongoing policy debate, strikes at the protected speech at the core of the First Amendment” the court filing said according to the WSJ. As…

44% of Americans Over 50 Plan to Take Social Security before Retirement Age

(CHICAGO)  Taking Social Security benefits early comes with a price, yet more than 4 in 10 Americans who are 50 and over say they’ll dip into the program before reaching full retirement age. An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll (pdf) released Thursday found that 44 percent report Social Security will be their biggest source of income during their retirement years. Full benefits begin at 65 or 66 for those born between 1943 and 1954. Americans can begin collecting as early as age 62, but with benefits reduced by up to 30 percent, according to the Social Security Administration. “One thing…

Philippines: 22 dead in 3 days of clashes with military

(Philippines)  The Philippines military says 22 members of a Daesh-linked group have been killed in a series of clashes with government troops in the predominantly Muslim south in the past three days. Military spokesman Maj Filemon Tan Jr. said in a statement Saturday that the deaths occurred after the “beheading of two civilians in the area” of Lanao del Sur. “Since May 26, 2016, intense military operations are being conducted against the local terrorist group,” he added. Tan said the operations had resulted in a series of clashes which left 22 members of the largely unknown “Maute group” dead, along…

L.A. will convert motel units to 500 apartments for homeless vets

The city of Los Angeles has approved a deal for nonprofit and private developers to convert “nuisance” motels into 500 permanent supportive apartments for homeless veterans. Officials called it a major step forward toward developing large-scale housing for hundreds of homeless veterans. Advocates say about 2,700 homeless veterans remain in the county, despite an intensive drive by local and federal officials.. Under the deal, developers will purchase underutilized, often run-down motels from private owners and convert them to efficiency apartments. The city’s housing authority will issue vouchers funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which will cover residents’ rent and provide supportive services, including case management and counseling. Further…
